and William Ayers, brothers, authors, teachers. Come to Park Day School
and see these two educational juggernauts tackle the system when
discussing their book Teaching the Taboo: Courage and Imagination in the
Classroom. This dynamic book, and their own lives as educators, are
filled with classroom stories of everyday teachers grappling with many
of today's hotly debated issues. As today’s parents and teachers
confront the cynicism and demoralization that has gripped this age of
standardization and testing, the Ayers urge teachers to teach
initiative, to teach imagination, to ''teach the taboo.'' Rick Ayers is a
university instructor and founder of the Communication and Arts School
at Berkeley High School. William Ayers is a school reform activist,
distinguished professor, and senior university scholar at the University
of Illinois at Chicago. It promises to be an engaging evening for every
parent currently facing the educational dilemma.
