TECHNOLOGY
Technology at Park is used as a tool to enhance the already rich curriculum taking place in each classroom. While our youngest students do have some access, technology integration really takes off in second grade. Students begin traveling to the lab to create multimedia projects, bringing their artwork and poetry to life. Third graders use computers in the classroom and lab to learn about graphing and maps, and to publish a classroom magazine. They begin keyboard instruction, helping them to become more independent in their effort to publish. Towards the end of the year, and throughout fourth grade, children are guided through the ever evolving community of the internet, learning how to travel safely by finding sites that are "just right" for them. Park's fourth graders create Powerpoint and Keynote presentations that
accompany their research projects. In fifth grade, students use
technology to research, organize their ideas, make presentations and
publish full individually published magazines.
As students improve their keyboarding accuracy and begin to master basic skills and computer applications, they are empowered with more choices in how to present their ideas, engaging the many different types of learners at Park.
By the middle school years, technology integration is seamless and becomes part of the writing process and research projects in several subject areas, as students have full access to our two labs.
